Lesiba Mabitsela is a qualified fashion designer hailing from Johannesburg and currently based in Cape Town, South Africa. Mabitsela's inspiration lies in bluring the borders between art and fashion in an effort to educate the society through site specific performance art and innovative clothing construction.
I currently reside in Cape Town, South Africa. Straight after completing a Bachelors Degree in Fashion Design and Technology at the Tshwane University of Technology, held the position of Junior Designer for St. Lorient Fashion & Art Gallery. I would later be drawn to take up another challenge as a junior design assistant with world-renowned fashion designer Gavin Rajah and have since been involved with work in the arts and film industry and continue to explore other mediums of expression through the use of garment construction.
My work has been featured at Design Indaba 2014, Infecting The City 2015 and the inaugural Inspire Design Expo 2014 in Johannesburg, as one of eight winners nation wide for the Samsung Inspire Design competition for that year. Of the many art and interdisciplinary residencies/ workshops attended the proudest moment for me so far was representing Africa at Reitir 2015 which is an international collaboration project held in Siglufjödur, Iceland.
